Design and realisation of a collaborative composition project between 360 primary school children
and 12 conservatoire students
Soranah's Spaceship is the result of a week long collaborative composition project with 360 primary school children from years 3 to 6. Twelve classes worked on individual pieces of musique concréte with conservatoire composition students using everyday objects bought in from home. The project allowed every pupil - irrespective of musical training - to be fully involved in the creation of the piece.
Every sound heard in this 50 minute digital musical - from sounds of nature and foley effects to apparent musical instruments - was produced either from simple everyday objects that the children brought in from home, or their voices. Workshops focused on the concept that anyone can make music - even without musical training or a musical instrument.
